A long story short
4 Moments of Tension and Grace
January 2020: REVIVING THE DREAM OF MARRIAGE
the year of the pandemic
Alone in Germany, there was no sign that that promise would come true. Meeting someone that year seemed impossible, let alone getting married. The Holy Spirit kept repeating in my heart: “God is not a man, that He should lie.” On October 4, 2020, I received a very unassuming message, totally unexpected—guess who it was from? That’s right, the blessed one <3. But what were the chances that we would get married that very year?
The impossible, right before our eyes
Basically, we saw God opening a river in the desert! After a lot of talking, many tears, and prayers, our paths finally crossed. Right in that year of chaos, we had to rush to get certificates, documents, wedding rings, passports... In six weeks, Cadu quit his job, sold his car, and got everything sorted out. Everything was ready to travel on a Saturday, December 13, 2020. Life reduced to a suitcase and a dream. He said goodbye to everyone and went to the airport, where he received the news that he couldn’t fly due to border closures. The photo above is from Sunday (the 14th), when everything seemed to have lost its meaning. Well, to make a long story short: the following Saturday, December 19, 2020, he boarded the flight with an authorization from the Portuguese government, “on an exceptional basis and for humanitarian reasons,” as stated in the document. Because our God is incredibly wonderful and spared no effort to fulfill His word. On December 20, 2020, after more than five years without seeing each other, Carlos arrived in Porto for our wedding.
We got married! December 28, 2020
3 days before the end of 2020, the prophecy came true! We never dated, and we didn’t know anyone from each other’s families. There was no dress, no party, but there was joy that overflowed our hearts. To this day, we still lack the words to describe what we experienced. And that is why we are confident that we will have a beautiful wedding celebration, because we know the God who cares for us.
“Yours, O Lord, are greatness, power, glory, majesty, and splendor, for everything in heaven and on earth is yours.” 1 Chr. 29:11
